At Wolverine, service to others is at the heart of what we do. Whether we’re helping to transport essential energy that fuels the drive home for the holidays, or dedicating a day each year to support our local communities, we are committed to making a positive impact and supporting our neighbors.
This year, our work areas served their local communities with help from United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Twelve Baskets, and Meals on Wheels. We would like to thank these exemplary organizations for working with us to give back at our annual Day of Caring events.
In Freedom Township, MI our team split into two groups, one working at Section 8 housing and the other at a military support housing complex. The team repaired decking at multiple units to support loose railings, cleaned up brush and yard waste, and installed a drain to remove excess water buildup near housing units after rain and storms.
In Niles, MI our team partnered with Meals on Wheels and United Way of Southwest Michigan to assist a local retiree with yard cleanup and beautification. The crew removed overgrown vegetation along the fence line, trimmed trees, repaired and pressure washed a wooden fence, mowed and edged the yard, installed security lighting, cleaned gutters, and painted the front porch and front door.
Our headquarters office team in Portage, MI assisted a local food pantry which also serves as a free store, Twelve Baskets, that had been heavily utilized following the tornado that came through our community in May. The group helped with cleaning and organizing inside and out. Outside, they pulled weeds and cleared leaves and trash from the lawn and parking lot. Inside, one group cleaned and organized gathering and food storage areas, while another sorted donations and hung or folded items as needed.
Our Hammond, IN team collaborated with Habitat for Humanity to assist on three home projects – two for military veterans and one for a healthcare worker. The work included indoor framing, truss work, setting floor joists and support posts, landscaping, and drainage improvements.
These rewarding experiences were powerful reminders of the difference we can make when we come together to support our neighbors. We are honored to work alongside all of the incredible organizations and look forward to continuing our efforts to give back.
