Wolverine Pipe Line Company Works with Local Emergency Responders to Practice Simulated Spill at Trestle Bridge

Rives Junction, Mich. — Wolverine Pipe Line Company conducted a simulated spill response drill at the Trestle Bridge Boat Access Site on September 27, 2019.  The drill was a part of Wolverine’s annual emergency response preparedness training that is conducted every year.

Wolverine personnel, along with local emergency responders, placed containment booms in the river to simulate released product control and recovery. This was only a simulated drill to better prepare teams for the future in the event of an actual release in the river.

“These simulated spill drills allow us to practice containment methods with local emergency responders,” said Louis Kraus, Right of Way & Claims and Public Affairs Specialist at Wolverine Pipe Line Company. “Hands-on-training is invaluable for both Wolverine employees and local emergency responders.”

“We appreciate the Wolverine Pipe Line staff taking the necessary steps to promote preparedness in Jackson County,” said Jackson County Emergency Management Director, Jason Breining. “A key component in keeping our communities safe is developing partnerships. Through planning, simulations and exercises, we’re better prepared to respond in the event of a real incident.”

Wolverine has a 16-inch pipeline that runs through Jackson County, transporting gasoline and diesel fuel from Chicago refineries to the area, Wolverine conducts these drills at different locations two to three times per year.

This year several local agencies participated including Jackson County Emergency Management and the Charleston Fire Department.
